Public Works/Prevailing Wages

Public Works by County

Assembly Bill (AB) 172 became effective June 9, 2015.  The amended provisions of AB 172 do not apply to public works projects awarded prior to June 9, 2015.  AB 172 does the following:

·         Changes the Public Work Project (PWP) amount from $100,000 to $250,000;

·         Requires that the prevailing wage for each craft in a county shall be at least 50% of the total hours worked in the county for each craft as reported through the survey process;

·         If there is no 50% majority, the prevailing wage will be the average of the total hours worked in the county for each craft as reported through the survey process;

·         Requires the prevailing wage rate on school projects including the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), to be at least 90% of the prevailing wage rate for each craft in the county where the school construction is taking place;

·         Exempts Charter Schools from prevailing wage requirements; and   

·         Repeals Senate Bill 119.

*The prevailing wage rates for 2015-2016 will be published on October 1, 2015, pursuant to Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) Section 338.040.  For school projects that are awarded between June 9, 2015, and October 1, 2015, the current 2014-2015 prevailing wage rates should be used, and reduced by 10% for each craft in the county where the school construction is taking place, to come up with the 90% amount for school projects.
